Homegoing Services for Karen Laverne Thomas, better known as Candy, will be 11am, Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024 at First Church of God in Christ in Huntsville, AL.

Burial will follow at 11am on Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024 at the Dedrick Family Cemetery in Sawyerville, AL.

Candy, 62, gained her heavenly wings on January 26, 2024 with her loved ones by her side. She accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was an avid worshipper.

As a teen, Candy enjoyed visiting her grandparents, Thomas and Sarah Dedrick, in Sawyerville. She also attended Greensboro Public School-East for one year. Her outgoing personality and unforgettable laugh created friendships that lasted a lifetime.

She was the proud mother of five children and enjoyed cheering on her favorite sports teams and listening to gospel music.

Karen leaves to cherish her precious memory, three daughters, TaNika Thomas of Detroit, LaToya Thomas and Alexandria Mims of Huntsville; two sons, Lewis Thomas II (Stephanie) and Christopher Thomas of Huntsville; three sisters, Marilyn Thomas and Cheryl Holtzclaw of Detroit, and Sarah Louise Holtzclaw of Tuscaloosa, AL; a brother, David Holtzclaw of Las Vegas, NV; five grandchildren, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and godchildren.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Josephine Thomas Holtzclaw; stepfather, Charles Holtzclaw, her father, John Cooper; and grandchildren DaZhon Markeece Thomas; and Nova Mims.
