Three back-to-school events are set across Hale County over the next two weeks, offering families free school supplies along with food, health screenings and activities.

The largest is the Bobby Singleton Back to School Supply Give Away, Health Fair and Fun Day, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Greensboro Recreation Center, also known as the Armory. Residents and businesses wishing to contribute supplies may drop them off at Greensboro City Hall. Checks and money orders should be made payable to the Hale County Enrichment Society, Inc., and mailed to P.O. Box 688, Greensboro, AL 36744. For more information, contact Lorrie Cook at (334) 624-8119.

In Moundville the same day, Women of Prayer and Power will host a Back to School Bash from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on the downtown square. Organizers are asking parents to bring their children’s school supply lists to have them filled on site. Vendors, businesses, churches, civic organizations and Greek letter organizations are expected to take part, and the event will include food, games, music, bouncy houses and cash giveaways. Anyone wanting to set up a table or make a donation may call Vanhorn at (205) 454-1190.

The following week, Healthy Haven and Clipper King Barber Shop will hold a back-to-school giveaway on Thursday, Aug. 6, beginning at 10 a.m. at the barber shop, 1205 Main St. in Greensboro. Supplies will be handed out until they run out. Food will be served, and free lead testing will be offered.
