After many public complaints about loose and wandering dogs, the City of Greensboro has issued a public notice asking residents to keep their dogs secured and off the streets.
Dogs roaming freely through neighborhoods, streets and public areas can create safety concerns for children walking to school, pedestrians, motorists, other animals and residents enjoying their own property, the notice says.
Dog owners are asked to keep their dogs secured on their property or under appropriate supervision and control, and not to let them roam through neighborhoods or onto other people’s property.
They are also asked to check fences, gates and other enclosures to keep dogs from escaping, and to make sure their dogs have adequate food, clean water, shelter and proper care.
The city asks owners to be considerate of their neighbors and to promptly address concerns involving their pets.
Concerns about roaming dogs may be referred to the appropriate city department or animal-control authority for review and action under applicable laws and ordinances.
