July is Smart Irrigation Month, and area farmers have an opportunity to try the technology on their own operations with funding support.
GreenSky Gives, a nonprofit supporting sustainable agriculture, is offering an on-farm smart irrigation trial funding opportunity for eligible farmers, ranchers and agricultural producers.
Participants may receive support to upgrade their irrigation systems with smart irrigation technology while taking part in a two-year on-farm evaluation project.
Smart irrigation uses technology and data to deliver the right amount of water at the right time, helping producers reduce water waste, improve irrigation efficiency, support healthier crops and forage, lower operating costs and make informed water-management decisions.
The opportunity was shared locally by the Hale County Extension office.
