Southern wins first state baseball title as Hennigan, Maxie take top AISA honors

Southern Academy pitcher Brayden Hennigan has been named the Alabama Independent School Association’s Pitcher of the Year after leading the Cougars to the first baseball state championship in school history.

The Cougars clinched the Class AA title on May 14 with a 2-0 victory over Clarke Prep at Paterson Field in Montgomery.

Hennigan was selected as Pitcher of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association on June 12 and named to the 2026 AISA All-State Team. He finished the season with a 13-0 record and a 1.24 ERA, striking out 115 batters in 79 innings across 15 appearances.

Southern designated hitter Drew Rogers was also named to the All-State Team.

Cougars head coach Kyle Maxie was selected by AISA coaches as Coach of the Year.
