Morgan Academy is mourning the loss of its quarterback, 16-year-old Caden Tellier, who tragically died from a brain injury sustained during a football game on August 23, 2024. The injury occurred during the third quarter of Morgan Academy’s season opener against Southern Academy in Selma, Alabama. Caden was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham, where he was treated for a critical brain injury, but he passed away the following day.

Caden’s parents announced his passing on social media, expressing their grief and gratitude for the prayers and support they have received. They shared that Caden, in his final act of generosity, would be an organ donor. Morgan Academy’s headmaster, Dr. Bryan Oliver, described Caden as a dedicated athlete and a shining light within the school community, emphasizing his strong faith and love for Jesus.

The community has come together to support the Tellier family, with memorial services and prayer gatherings held in Caden’s honor. The loss has deeply affected not only Morgan and Southern but also the broader Alabama high school football community, which recently experienced another tragedy with the death of Semaj Watkins from New Brockton High School earlier in August.

Caden Tellier’s legacy as a student, athlete, and devoted Christian will be remembered by all who knew him. The family has set up a GoFundMe to assist with expenses, and over $109,000 has been raised so far.
