A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, has claimed the life of a Greensboro woman. Irene W. Watkins, 59, was fatally injured when the 2014 Cadillac XTS she was a passenger in collided head-on with the 2006 International tractor-trailer driven by Emmett L. Dukes, 38, of Selma. Watkins was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Cadillac, Jane L. Wallace, 66, of Greensboro, was injured and transported to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa for medical treatment.

The crash occurred on Alabama 69 near the 113 mile marker, approximately three miles north of Greensboro, in Hale County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.

Wallace was a wellknown member of the Hale County community. She worked with Hale County Sheriff’s Department in addition to operating her own business, Irene’s Beauty Palace, on Main Street in Greensboro.
