Wood Irvin George Jr, age 76, of Akron, Alabama passed away on August 17, 2023. The family received friends on Monday, August 21, 2023, at Concord Baptist Church in Moundville beginning at 10:00 am. The funeral service began at 11:00 am with burial following at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. George is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eloise George; two daughters, Lisa (Pat) Morris and Candice (Chris) Hunter; brother, William Pleaze (Kathy) George; grandchildren, Mac Poole, Alex Poole (Andrew Hedrick) Niki Poole, Garrett Hunter, Logan Hunter, Halle Morris and Jp Morris; great-grandchildren, Baker Hedrick and Oakley Dayawon and a host of friends. Instead of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Moundville Health and Rehab: Activities for Residents.

Wood Irvin was raised in the Stewart Community in Hale County. He graduated from Akron High School in 1967, and remained lifelong friends with his classmates and childhood friends. He worked on several highway construction sites before retiring from the Hale County Highway Department. He really enjoyed traveling in the West and made many trips to visit family in Arizona. He enjoyed being outside, riding motorcycles, fishing, the river and the beach. As his health declined and he was not as active, he became a true fan of Western TV programs. He was a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family and made many sacrifices to assure they were cared for. He was greatly loved and always be in our hearts.

Pallbearers were John Wayne George, Christopher George, Mark Plummer, Mike Plummer, Roy Drake, and Tyler McCray.

Honorary Pallbearers were Joe Seale, Ronnie “Pig” Holley, Monroe Bigham, Lee Walker, Adam Jones and Moundville Health and Rehab Station.
