In partnership with the Newbern Library’s Summer Reading and Arts Enrichment Program, the Jule Collins Smith Museum of Auburn will bring a new educational enrichment program called “Museum in Motion” to the Library. The first engagement will be this Saturday, June 10 as part of the reading program’s kickoff festival. Taking inspiration from the children’s book, Dream Street, by author Tricia Elam Walker and artist Ekua Holmes, participants will create a collective collage inspired by both the story and art. The story celebrates an everyday neighborhood and all the different people who comprise that neighborhood, from the young to the elderly, and the dreams they hold. The illustrations are made of colorful collages that showcase a vibrant and diverse community of people.
The second visit by “Museum in Motion” will be on Saturday, August 12 at the Library and will feature an intergenerational project that ties back to sculptural art from the Jule’s collection. More details will follow.
