A Greensboro man has been charged with receiving stolen property after investigators say they found a stolen handgun in his home while working a missing person case.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Hale County District Court, investigators executed a search warrant on Feb. 11 at the residence of Ronald Arness Barker, 59, at 1551 Washington Heights in Greensboro. During the search, Investigator Jack D. Nelson and Deputy Clint Sumlin reported finding a 9 mm semiautomatic pistol lying on a couch in the living room. A check of the serial number showed the gun had been reported stolen out of the jurisdiction of the San Francisco, Calif., Police Department.
The complaint states Barker told Nelson he had bought the pistol from another person. Nelson later interviewed that person, who told him Barker had stolen the gun, the filing says.
Barker was arrested Feb. 13 and charged with one count of receiving stolen property in the second degree, a Class C felony. He was booked into the Hale County Jail and his bond was set at $15,000. Court records list his status as out on bond, with a plea docket set for March 24.
