McArthur Shaw, affectionately known as “Mack,” was born November 3, 1943, in Marion, Alabama, and departed this life on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at DCH Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, at the age of 81.
Mack confessed his life to Christ at an early age and united with Mount Pleasant A.M.E. Zion Church in Marion, Alabama, and later in life joined Walls Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Greensboro, Alabama. Throughout his life, his sincere and generous personality earned the respect of many who met him. He met no strangers. He was proudly employed with the Alabama State Department of Transportation for more than thirty years before retiring. He was the 12th child of the late Ms. Sophernia Shaw and Mr. Jessie Hopkins.
Homegoing Celebration will be held Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Bay Springs A.M.E. Zion Church, 703 County Road 86, Greensboro, Alabama 36744. Rev. Muriel R. Brown of Walls Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church will officiate.
He is preceded in death by one daughter, Tammy D. Shaw, and nine of his siblings. He leaves to cherish his loving memories: a loving and devoted wife of sixty years Dorothy M. Shaw; four devoted daughters, Maxine Shaw Graham of Deatsville, Alabama, Emma J. Shaw of Greensboro, Alabama, Melissa D. Shaw of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Jennifer O. Shaw of Birmingham, Alabama. Two loving sisters, Mrs. Ruth Howard of Grove Hill, Alabama and Mrs. Barbara J. Wright of Miami, Florida. Three loving grandsons, Kenneth Jamar Williams (Jasmyne) of Clinton, MD; Demonta A. Shaw of Prattville, Alabama and Javoris Shaw of Moundville, Alabama. Five loving granddaughters, Bridget and Briana Williams of Montgomery, Alabama; Zoe and Zaria Jackson of Tuscaloosa, Alabama and “baby girl” LaMiracle Deniece Shaw (the apple of his eye) of Moundville, Alabama. Five great grandchildren. Four sisters-in-law: Jennie Sue (Clevell) Small of Greensboro, Alabama, Gladys M. Thomas of Greensboro, Alabama, Nannie R. Harris of Montgomery, Alabama and Shirley J. Lewis of Fort Walton Beach, Florida. Three brothers-in-law: Willie L. (Classy) Thomas of Montgomery, Alabama, Leonard B. (Carolyn) Thomas of Greensboro, Alabama and Robert A. (Sperenia) Thomas of Moundville, Alabama. A devoted and faithful cousin Gloria Burroughs and a host of other caring nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
