Floyd Lester Marchant, 88, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025 at Bibb County Nursing Home. A celebration of life was held Sunday, November 2, 2025 at Ada Chapel Bible Methodist Church at 2:00pm. Visitation was one hour prior to the service. Burial followed at Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church Cemetery in Hale County with Rev. Randall Crotts, Rev. Doug Eads, and Rev. Cale Manley officiating.
Floyd was born March 28, 1937 to Clifford and Havoline Marchant. After graduating from West Blocton High School in May 1955, Floyd worked as an automotive mechanic for Cecil Crews Chevrolet before entering the Army on July 16, 1962. Floyd worked 45 years as a sawmill sawyer until his retirement. Floyd had hobbies too many to list but included his sawmill, gristmill, and the family syrup mill. He took great pride in helping others especially by repairing anything broken.
Floyd is a true believer in Jesus Christ as his personal savior. He was faithful to his church, Ada Chapel Bible Methodist, from childhood to present. Floyd loved to share his faith through music with many different instruments. Over the years, many people enjoyed him playing the harmonica. He usually had at least one harmonica in his pocket.
Floyd aka Pappy is survived by his wife of 42 years, Annie Lou Coleman Marchant. Children: Greg Marchant (Pam), Terri Jones (Jimmy), Daryl Fondren (Emily), Rita Dunn (Willie), and David Fondren (Karen). Grandchildren: Allison Hunter, Derrick Fondren, Becky Semple, Neal Jones, Krista Knight, Blake Littleton, Summer Nelson, Brooke Pugh, Brianna Fondren, Bridget McCrary, Watson Fondren, Haley Marlowe, Cydnie Haney, Gabriel Haney, Emma Claire Haney, Chris Dunn, Will Dunn, and 24 Great-grandchildren. Floyd is survived by his Sister, Dovie Ann Duke (Monroe), Brother, Jacob Marchant (Linda) and a large host of nieces and nephews.
Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, and Brothers: Howard Marchant, David Marchant and Lambuth Marchant. Pallbearers were: Neal Jones, Watson Fondren, Blake Littleton, Mark Marchant, Matthew Marchant, Gabriel Haney, Cayden Knight, and Derek Duke.
Honorary Pallbearers were: Jimmy Jones, Willie Dunn, Max McCary, Derrick Fondren, Josh Hunter, Henry Semple, Morgan Pugh, Lance Marchant, Karli Bradford and staff of BMC Home Health, staff of BMC Nursing Home, Cedar Grove Volunteer Fire Department, and Ada Chapel Bible Methodist Church congregation present and past.
