As Juneteenth approaches, communities in the Black Belt are gearing up for a weekend of celebration, reflection, and unity. Two major events have been announced for Greensboro and Uniontown, both promising a day full of activities, entertainment, and community spirit.
In Greensboro, the Men of Valor organization is excited to host their third annual Juneteenth celebration. This event has grown in popularity year after year, with this year’s celebration anticipated to be the biggest yet. The festivities will be held both on and off the city’s Main Street, which will be transformed into a vibrant hub of entertainment. A stage will be set up for various performances, along with vendors, food trucks, and other activities lining the downtown area. This full day of celebration will run from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 17.
Meanwhile, also on Saturday, Uniontown will be ringing in Juneteenth with a “Freedom Day” celebration at the City Hall parking lot, right next to the Dollar General building. The event kicks off with a unity prayer at 8:00 a.m., setting a tone of unity and reflection for the day. The festival will begin at 10:00 a.m., offering free fun for the whole family. Attendees can look forward to games, raffles, vendors, food, and music, along with presentations throughout the day.
Both events promise to bring a meaningful blend of celebration and remembrance, honoring the spirit of Juneteenth and the strength of the local community. Residents of Perry and Hale counties are encouraged to come out and join in these celebrations of freedom, resilience, and unity.
