The Historic Magnolia Grove Foundation will close its temporary exhibit “Feathers in Fashion” with a reception at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, at the museum and a talk at 6 by its curator, Ian Crawford, a Greensboro resident on the faculty of the University of Alabama’s Department of Clothing, Textiles and Interior Design.
The exhibit, mounted with Alabama Audubon’s sixth annual Black Belt Birding Festival, traces the use of feathers in fashion, from ladies’ hats and fans to military regalia, and the toll the fashion industry’s demand took on bird populations, with pieces from Magnolia Grove’s permanent collection and private collections, recreations of historic garments and timeline panels.
The event is free; donations to the foundation are welcome.
