Mrs. Hattie King of Davis Street has been selected as the Greensboro Garden Club’s August Yard of the Month.
Mrs. King has called Davis Street her home for more than 40 years, and her cheerful personality is reflected throughout her beautifully maintained landscape.
As we toured her yard, she greeted us with a smile and a laugh, joking that we had waited until the hottest part of the summer to come admire her flowers.
When asked about her favorite plant, Mrs. King didn’t hesitate to name her beautiful pink Knock Out roses, which were blooming throughout the yard. As we continued our walk, we admired many other colorful flowers in shades of pink and orange. One group of bright pink blooms especially caught our attention. Mrs. King explained that they were four o’clocks, a longtime favorite that adds even more charm to her garden.
Mrs. King also shared that she enjoys decorating her landscape with whimsical garden statues. With a smile, she pointed out several of her favorite rooster figures tucked among the flowers, adding a touch of personality and fun to the already inviting garden.
For Mrs. King, gardening is about more than just flowers. She said the greatest joy comes from working with her plants and then sitting back to watch them grow and bloom. Her garden even includes a vegetable patch, and with a laugh she proudly pointed out a watermelon that had recently been cut from the vine and was waiting to be enjoyed.
Maintaining such a beautiful yard is truly a family effort. Mrs. King’s son, Ron, helps by keeping the lawn neatly mowed, allowing the colorful gardens to take center stage.
The Greensboro Garden Club congratulates Mrs. Hattie King on being selected as the August Yard of the Month and thanks her for helping make Greensboro a more beautiful place. Her dedication, warm spirit, and love of gardening are an inspiration to all who pass by.
