The Greensboro Opera House’s newly connected west wing, formerly the Phillips II building, has been named The Nicholas Hamner Cobbs, Jr. Wing in honor of the longtime board member, the Opera House Board of Directors announced Sept. 13 after the performance of “Thrice-Told Tales: The Phantom of the Greensboro Opera House… The Phantom Returns.”

Cobbs is stepping away from the board after many years of service. He was a founding member of the board, and the board said he devoted countless hours to the preservation and restoration of the historic building, from the earliest days of the restoration effort, through his hands-on work, leadership and determination.
The former Phillips II space was recently connected to the main Opera House, adding room for the use and growth of the building, the board said.

The audience was shown a commemorative plaque honoring Cobbs and his years of service. The plaque will be displayed permanently in the wing.
