Mittie Ann Underwood died Monday, Aug. 10, at the age of 80.

Underwood was born April 17, 1946, in Autauga County to Andrew Jackson Underwood and Mittie Ann Underwood. She confessed Christ at an early age and joined Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church. Her journey in faith led her to Greater New Destiny Baptist Church, under the leadership of its pastor, Anthony Moore.

Survivors include a son, James (Evangenia) Underwood; a sister, Effie Watkins; a brother, Arthur Underwood; a son-in-law, Donald Livingston; two grandchildren, Rokeikei and Tyyanz Underwood; five great-grandchildren, K’Lei, Kelce, Kei’Lani Underwood, China Monterief and Riyah White; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Mittie Underwood; a daughter, Henrietta Livingston; three brothers, Andrew, Clarence and Leon Underwood; and two sisters, Leayla Stoudemire and Minnie Pearl Davis.

A public viewing was held Friday, Aug. 21, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Washington and Paige Mortuary in Greensboro.

A homegoing service was held Saturday, Aug. 22, at 11 a.m. at Greater New Destiny Baptist Church, 301 Millwood Road, Greensboro, with Anthony Moore officiating. She lay in state for one hour before the service.

Arrangements were by Washington and Paige Mortuary.
