Welcome to Greensboro!
This month, four new Project Horseshoe Farm fellows are joining the Hale County Hospital team: Joline Fong, Katelyn Corpuz, Manasa Raghavan, and Meghna Kommu. As part of their year-long fellowship, these four recent college graduates will take charge of a wide range of initiatives to gain exposure to the inner workings of a small rural hospital and give back to the local community. Discharge Calls and Visits
To support patients following their stay at the hospital, fellows will call all discharged patients to check in and share resources to support healing. Every discharged patient is also introduced to Project Horseshoe Farm’s Health Partner program, which fosters caring, neighborly relationships between community members and Horseshoe Farm fellows.
This year, the fellows also hope to initiate a discharge visit and meal delivery program to further support patients after they leave the hospital.
CLIMB Academy (Community Leaders in Medicine and Beyond)
The newly developed CLIMB Academy mentors a select group of outstanding local high school students as they prepare for their futures as leaders in their communities and in the world. Through experiential learning, the program provides opportunities for dedicated public service and meaningful engagement with their community.
CLIMB students assist with various Project Horseshoe Farm programs, including meal delivery, academic support for younger children, volunteering at Diversicare Nursing Home, and more. Students also visit Hale County Hospital and are introduced to healthcare careers through field trips, shadowing, and guest speakers.
This year, the fellows hope to expand CLIMB to more students outside the Greensboro area and form a working partnership with the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences (ASHS) Foundation in Demopolis.
Community Garden
This year, the Hospital Track Fellows and CLIMB students aim to establish a community garden at Hale County Hospital to build on the welcoming atmosphere for all patients and caregivers. The new garden area will provide fresh produce for use in hospital meals, while also creating an inviting space for employees, patients, and community members to come together and connect.
Each week, the fellows will use this column to share health tips, give project updates, spotlight patient success stories, and more. They are excited to be joining the Hale County Hospital team and look forward to engaging deeply with the Greensboro community over the next year. Community members are encouraged to stop and say hello when they see them around town.
