The Greensboro Alabama Preservation and Tourism Alliance has brought an America 250 Liberty Tree to Greensboro as communities across the nation commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The Liberty Tree, provided by the Alabama USA Semiquincentennial Commission, is on display in the People’s Bank Courtyard, where it will remain until a permanent location is selected. Residents and visitors are encouraged to stop by.
The courtyard sits directly across the street from Greensboro City Hall and the historic Hale County Courthouse, placing the tree near the institutions that serve the community today. Liberty Trees served as gathering places for colonists in the years leading up to the American Revolution and became symbols of freedom, self-government and community action.
The display structure was designed and built by Robert Broach, who donated his time and labor to the project. GAPTA provided the materials. The organization also thanked Hale County Probate Judge David Parker for his support and assistance.
