Bessie Lee Braxton Jones, 80, died on Saturday, June 14, 2026.
She was born on June 12, 1946, to the late Tommie Braxton Sr. and Laura Clemons Braxton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Loucelle Smith, Patsy Harper, and Barbara Braxton; and two brothers, James Braxton and Bobby Braxton.
She leaves to cherish her memories her husband of 64 years, Jessie Lee Jones Sr.; her sons, Jessie (Barbara) and Moses (Ruthie); her daughter, Wendy (Charles); seven grandchildren, Jessica, Quinton, Nicole, Monique, Tiffany, Kenya, and Courtney; twenty great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mary Hines, Betty Braxton, and Ethel Mayes; one brother, Tommie (Deborah) Braxton; one half-brother, Tommie Parker; two stepsisters, Essie Brown and Lorine Peterson; one stepbrother, Richard Parker; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Newbern, with Elder Edward McCollough officiating.
