Denise Martin Banks, better known to her family and friends as “Nita,” was born on November 22, 1964, in Greensboro, Alabama, to the late Sarah and Roosevelt Martin. She passed away on August 11, 2024. Denise was preceded in death by her parents, Sarah and Roosevelt Martin; her sister, Cynthia Smith; and her three brothers, Charles Lowery, Clarence Wilson, and Ronald Hambright. She was also preceded in death by her aunt, Mrs. Jeff Ella Fuqua, and two grandchildren, “Angel Babies Tucker.”

Denise confessed Christ at an early age and was educated in the Greensboro Public School (West) System.

Denise leaves to cherish her precious memories her son, Frank (Lula) Banks of Mobile, Alabama; her three daughters, Sarah (Barry) White, Kaneisha Banks, and Alfershia Banks of Greensboro, Alabama; her four sisters, Pearlie Fuqua and Gail Hill of Greensboro, Alabama, Andretta (Charles) Williams of Athens, Alabama, and Gloria (Kennis) Dent of Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland; her four brothers, James (Joyce) Fuqua of Greensboro, Alabama, Richard (Regina) Fuqua of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Thaddeus (Shelia) Wilson of Powder Springs, Georgia, and Edwaldo (Runetta) Wilson of Douglasville, Georgia; and one brotherin- law, Fred Smith Jr. of Greensboro, Alabama. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren: Kelis Evans, Kenley White, Kyson White, Ace Ward, Frankaesha Banks, Markeedreyah Carlisle, Markaeveunna Carlisle, Markius Carlisle, Johari Miller, and Josiah Howell. Special friends Carolyn Williams Jones, LaShell Hurns, Lillie Davis Brown, Dicey Gray, and Ida Mae Taylor of Greensboro, Alabama, Diane Washington of Gainesville, Alabama, Rodney McGhee of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Donte Jackson of Conyers, Georgia, also cherish her memory, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Services were held on Saturday, August 24, at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Greensboro, Alabama. The Rev. Calvin Johnson served as Pastor, and the Rev. James Frank officiated.
