The Greensboro Club of the Alabama Homemakers and Community Leaders recently held a luncheon for recipients of the Evelyn D. Edwards Scholarship. Britain Burnette and Kimberly Colburn were honored as recipients of the annual scholarship which is given each year to at least one female high school Senior who is a resident of Hale County.

The scholarship began in 1978 in recognition of the contributions of Evelyn Edwards to the Hale County Homemakers. Ms. Edwards helped start the Arts and Crafts Show which later became the Catfish Festival. Proceeds from the show originally funded the scholarship. Now the scholarship is funded by an annual Bake Sale held in November of each year. The scholarship has had over 100 recipients.
