At Hale County Hospital, we make it our priority to pursue and promote healing, improved health, and improved quality of life of the residents of Hale County and surrounding communities. We focus on relationship and community- centered healthcare complemented by programming, activities, and community partnerships that support improved health and quality of life of our neighbors. We focus on relationship-based and high-touch care that allows us to get to know our patients in ways that less personal systems are unable to achieve. We place a great emphasis on primary care, mental health and behavioral health, and social services, and are working to bring the best of specialty care via video and telephone consultation to your visits with your primary care providers. We also partner with local community and nonprofit organizations to offer activities, classes, and support to seniors, individuals with mental illness and to individuals with multiple chronic illnesses who often have needs that extend beyond traditional healthcare systems. This is what we mean when we say “Neighbors Helping Neighbors.”

This week is National Eating Disorder Awareness Week. Eating disorders impact 9% of the entire U.S. population and have the second highest mortality rate of any psychiatric illness behind opiate addiction. Eating disorders can affect people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds and can have serious physical and psychological consequences if left untreated. Early intervention and treatment are essential for recovery. Eating disorders also differ on a case-by-case basis and do not have the same effects on every individual impacted by them. Some of the most common symptoms of eating disorders include constantly thinking about food, weight, and calories, having a distorted perception of one’s shape and size, binge eating, frequent dieting, fluctuations in weight, fatigue, dizziness, dehydration, fainting, obsessive exercise, mood swings, anxiety, and depression.

If you or a loved one is exhibiting symptoms of an eating disorder, please schedule an appointment with one of our providers and/or one of our psychiatrists at (334) 624-4442 for the Hale County Hospital Clinic in Greensboro and (205) 371-4444 for our Moundville Medical Associates location.
