Thomas Arthur “Tom” Walthall IV of Wetumpka died Monday, July 3 at the age of 85. He was born January 30, 1938 and grew up in the small town of Newbern, AL, graduating from Greensboro High School in 1956.
He graduated from Auburn University in 1960, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He was a lifetime member of the Auburn Alumni Association and lifelong Auburn football fan. He spent 30 years working for Alabama Power as a sales rep, residential specialist, and marketing supervisor before retiring in 1996.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Laurice Butler Walthall and Thomas Arthur Walthall III, his brother, William Butler “Bill” Walthall, and his nephew, Charles Werth Roberts III.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Twyla Ellis Walthall, and son Thomas Arthur “Art” Walthall V (Jennifer), sisters Carolyn Walthall Smith and Frances Walthall Roberts, nieces Melanie Roberts Germany, Susan Roberts O’Connell, Carol Roberts Roddy, Laurice Claire Smith, and Lynn Smith Parker, and nephew Thomas Arthur Roberts.
He most enjoyed being out on his boat and spending time at the cabin he and his wife built on Lake Martin. He was a friend to every person and every animal who met him.
