Sis. Dorothy Peterson Gooden was born January 28, 1952 to the late Lela Peterson Smith and Werdna Peterson.

She confessed hope in Christ at an early age and joined the Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church. She attended the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church until her health began to fail.

On April 27, 1996, Dorothy was united in Holy Matrimony to the Rev. Cleveland Gooden, Sr. To this union she brought one son and one daughter and gained three sons and two daughters. They shared one daughter.

Sis. Gooden departed this life on January 30, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Terrence Peterson, and step-son Rev. Cleveland Gooden, Jr.

Gooden, Sidney (Jessie) Gooden, Elander Gooden, and Darcy Gooden; five sisters- in-law: Renonia Warren, Mattie (Kevin) Dunham, Shelia (Gregory) Harris, Bonnie Gooden, and Brenda Gooden; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 4 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Greensboro with the Rev. Antonio Shelton officiating and Washington and Paige Mortuary directing.
