Luvenia Robertson Dedrick died Wednesday, Sept. 21 at the age of 84. She was born June 27, 1938 in Sawyerville to the late Doc and Emma Jones Robertson.

She confessed Christ at an early age and joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she served as church secretary, Sunday school teacher, missions and matrons president, and choir member. She served faithfully until her health failed.

She was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 35 years and served as Postmaster of the Sawyerville Post Office She was active in the St. Paul District Association, where she served as district historian, on the women’s department finance committee, and faithfully worked with the matrons department.

She is preceded in death by a daughter, Brenda Ann Stoker; four brothers, Chadman, Bill Lewis, Arthur Robertson, and Isaac Robertson; four sisters, Ruth Mae, Pearliner, Martha Lee Robertson, and Mary L. Williams.


Survivors include a devoted husband of 60 years, Wilbert Dedrick; two sons, George (Patricia) Dedrick of Ovilla, Texas and Joe Lee Dedrick of Dallas, Texas; three grandchildren raised as her own, Stacy Ward, Eddie Neal Ward, and the late Tammy Ward; she was a surrogate mother to many; one brother, Johnny (Inez) Robertson of Bessemer; a sister, Dorothy Rushing of Buffalo; six grandchildren, Mario Strong, Devoria Carter, Crystal Luvenia Dedrick, Jonathan Dedrick, Ralston Stoker, and Ryan Stoker; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three brothers-in-law, Albert Dedrick, Eddie (Sarah) Dedrick of Lansing, Mich., and Charles (Tonya) Dedrick of Stockbridge, Ga.; sister-in-law, Darlene Dedrick of Lansing, Mich.; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Oct. 2 at 2:00 p.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Sawyerville with Pastor Marvin Wiggins officiating and Washington and Paige Mortuary directing.
