Parr’s Chevron, the well-known chain of gas stations and convenience stores with nine locations in the region, announced last week that it has sold out.
The company made the announcement via its Facebook page last week. The Parr family, which has roots in Hale County, has been based in Demopolis for many years, expanding its fuel and convenience store operations since opening the first one in 1956. The family also owns and operates several other business ventures, which, according to the Facebook announcement, will not be affected.
The sale was already finalized when the announcement was made. The Parr family said the nine stores would continue to operate as before.
“Rest assured, you can expect no interruption with daily operations, and will still be greeted with the same friendly faces you are accustomed to seeing when you frequent our stores,” read the announcement.
While exiting the retail sector of the fuel industry, the announcement said the Parr family would expand their operations in the wholesale fuel and oil industry through a “new partnership” with Chevron.
Parr’s entry into the oil and fuel business began in the 1950s, and has included a fuel distribution business since that time.
The family also owns and operates the Butcher Shop and Parr’s Express Wash in Demopolis, which will remain in the family. The Parrs will also continue to operate their retail location at the intersection of U.S. Highways 43 and 80 in Demopolis.
MidStates Petroleum Company is a regional oil distributor and retail store operator with locations throughout the Southeast. The company’s website says it is Alabama’s largest Texaco supplier and Mississippi’s first Marathon jobber. Business listings online say MPC has a headquarters in Vernon, Ala.
“This Alabama, family-owned company is comprised of a fine group of people, and we have no doubt, this will be a smooth transition for everyone,” said the announcement.
