Michael Hamilton, who currently serves as the city of Greensboro’s police chief, appears to have clinched the Democratic nomination for Hale County Sheriff. There being no declared Republican opposition for the race, Hamilton is presumed to be the winner and Hale County’s next Sheriff. Hamilton will succeed Kenneth Ellis, who is retiring after many years in the position.
Reached by phone Tuesday night as the results came in, Hamilton said he wanted to express his gratitude.
“I thank God for this chance and thank Hale County for their support,” he said. “I definitely want to thank my family, I appreciate all the hard work and long hours they’ve put into this campaign.”
Hamilton said he was looking forward to the chance to continue serving the people of Hale County.
“My service to Hale County will continue,” he said.
With 100% of boxes reporting Tuesday night according to the Alabama Secretary of State’s website, Hamilton had 1,273 votes, or 53.53% of the total cast. Willie J. Bryant, the only other candidate on the ballot, polled 1,105 votes of 46.57% of the total. In all, there were 2,378 votes cast in the Democratic primary for Hale County Sheriff.
