Lucille Bryant passed away on May 16. A viewing was held on Friday, May 23, at Melvin Miller Funeral Service in Marion. A Celebration of Life took place on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Reynolds Chapel Church on Highway 48 in Newbern. Interment followed at McCreary Cemetery on Highway 61 in Newbern.

A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 10:21 p.m. Monday, May 26, has claimed the life of a Brent man. George T. Middlebrooks, 64, was critically injured when the 2010 Toyota Camry he was driving left the roadway, struck a ditch and overturned. Middlebrooks was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was transported to Bibb Medical Center in Centreville, where he succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased.
