Ways to Celebrate
Earth Day
This Friday, April
22nd, is Earth Day! This
holiday was first celebrated in 1970 in order to
promote environmental
causes and bring awareness on how to protect our
planet. Here are a few
ways you can celebrate
Earth Day this year:
• Drink from a
reusable water bottle.
Over two million tons of
water bottles end up in
U.S. landfills. Using a
reusable water bottle
helps keep plastic bottles
out of our landfills!
• Recycle. There are
several recycling drop-off
locations in Tuscaloosa
for plastic, paper, cardboard, tin, and aluminum.
The closest one to
Greensboro is location in
the parking lot of Hillcrest
High School
• Be car-free for a day.
For every mile walked instead of driven, nearly
one pound of pollution is
kept out of the air. Riding
a bike is also another
great way to be car-free.
Not only is it good exercise, it can help reduce
pollution.
• Use a reusable bag at
the store. It’s been estimated that Americans use
100 billion plastic bags a
year, and just the production alone for those requires about 12 million
barrels of oil. Not to mention, they take up lots of
space in landfills and
cause major problems for
marine wildlife. Instead,
buy a reusable bag to use
when you go to the grocery store.
We hope you and your
friends and loved ones go
outside and have a great
Earth Day!
