Greensboro will pick from among four candidates for mayor, Newbern has two-way race between Braxton and Cole

Municipal elections in Greensboro will take place on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, with polls open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Greensboro Recreational Center. Longtime mayor J.B. Washington is not seeking re-election, prompting a competitive four-way race to succeed him. Voters will choose among Darrayl K. Agnew, Ralph A. Howard, Melvin Lightning, and Quincy Patrick.

All five of the city’s incumbent council members— Mary Bragg, Pearl Shepherd, Ashley Kyser, KaTerriaial Lewis, and Bobbie Curtis—qualified unopposed and will continue to serve.

Absentee ballot applications sent by mail were due August 19. Hand-delivered applications will be accepted until Thursday, August 21. Emergency absentee ballot requests may be submitted through Monday, August 25. All absentee ballots returned by mail must arrive at City Hall by noon on Election Day to be counted.
