Robert Charles King, age 91, of Cottondale, AL, passed away at home on February 18, 2025. A private graveside service will be held with Donald Williams presiding.

Mr. King was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Eskin King and Grace Kelley Williams, a granddaughter, Jody Robyn Avery, and son-in-law, Terry Trenk.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Charlotte Pate King; his daughters, Connie K. Avery (Leland), Carmon K. Smithson (Dan), and Robyn K. Trenk (Terry – deceased); grandchildren Leah E. Avery, Megan Watkin (Matt) and Patrick Doherty and two great – grandchildren Kenzie Watkins and Rett Watkins.

Mr. King was born in 1933 in Moundville, AL. He joined the Army at the age of 17 and served in the Korean War. After his service to his country, he attended Shelton Community College. He was a loving husband, father, and friend. He was employed as an overhead bridge crane operator at the Central Foundry. He was a sharpshooter, winning many competitions. He worked hard alongside his wife to ensure his daughters became successful, independent adults.

Serving as pallbearers are Jeffery Harless, Kelton Moore, Patrick Doherty, Kenneth Pate, Michael Harris and Matt Watkins. Honorary Pallbearers are the Caregivers and hospice nurses.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Hospice of West AL or to your favorite charity.
