Stay Active, Have Fun: Pickleball!
Most health professionals recommend at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day to maintain good health. While activities like walking, jogging, or lifting weights are great options, one fun and engaging way to stay active could involve trying the fastest growing sport in America – pickleball! It’s easy to learn and accessible to all ages and fitness levels.
Pickleball is somewhere between tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It’s played on a smaller court with paddles and a wiffle ball, making it a low-impact but high-energy game that’s perfect for beginners and experienced players alike.
In Greensboro, a fantastic place to play is Project Horseshoe Farm’s indoor pickleball court, located on Market Street, diagonally across the street from the Greensboro Watchman stand. Community pickleball takes place every Tuesday at 5:30 PM, and everyone is welcome! If you’re curious but unsure or intimidated about joining, please give us a call at 334-218-6009. Leave a message with your name, phone number, and that you’re interested in pickleball, and we’ll get back to you to arrange a time to introduce you to the game.
Whether you’re looking for a new way to stay active, meet new people, or just have fun, pickleball is a great option. Plus, with an indoor court, you can keep playing no matter the weather, day or night!
The pickleball bug is quickly spreading across the Black Belt. This spring, Marion will be opening a new indoor recreation center with basketball and pickleball on the edge of downtown. Perry County residents stay tuned!
Dr. John Dorsey saw the potential for pickleball when he first stumbled across the sport 5 years ago. A big advocate for the importance of exercise and healthy behaviors to good physical and mental health, he shares why he loves the sport:
“I love pickleball because it is accessible to everyone, regardless of your age or fitness level. It also encourages play, which has many positive impacts on mental, physical, and emotional health. Finally, it’s a social sport that brings people together around a healthy activity, friendship, and meeting new people.”
If you’re in Greensboro and looking for a fun, social way to stay active, come check out community pickleball at Project Horseshoe Farm. No experience? No problem! Stop by, grab a paddle, and see why so many people are joining the pickleball movement. See you on the court!
