Gloriann DeCastra, daughter of Peter & Kasey DeCastra, was awarded an Apple Award at Woodland Forest Elementary. Apple awards were awarded to the level 4 or in the 90th percentile scoring students at mid year testing in reading and math. Glori is 9 years old and in the 3rd grade. The awards were given during a lovely dinner at her school. Glori is the granddaughter of Frank & Anne DeCastra, and Gloria & Bill Harrell. Charlene Wiggins, Latoya Spencer and Tristan Spencer of Moundville, traveled to Atlanta, Ga., Monday, Jan. 6th, to pay respects to the late President Jimmy Carter, as he lay in repose at The Carter Center. Charlene said it took them a while, to figure out where to park and how to get in there. Thanks to Charlene’s knowledge of the Marta stations, there were no parking places near the Carter Center nor parking at the closest Marta stations. So they went to the Hamilton E. Holmes Marta station and caught the subway to the King Memorial Marta station, then caught a shuttle bus to The Carter Center, before going through security (no bags or photography were allowed). A very long line, they saw a bit of the museum. Then viewed President Carter lying in repose, staying long enough to see the changing of the guard. Charlene said It was the moment of a lifetime for her since she is a history buff and former history teacher. Charlene’s Aunt Janie, viewed the live feed online and managed to screen shot Charlene (red coat), as she was viewing President Carter’s casket.(see pic)
