John “Big John” R. Wallace, age 69 of Moundville Al, passed away on Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Princeton Baptist Medical Center. Visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 15, 2022 at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Immediately followed by a graveside service with Charles Spence officiating at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park. He is preceded in death by his parents, John William Wallace and Annie Lawrence Wallace; brother, William Gary Wallace. He is survived by his wife, Wendy Wallace; daughter, Tracy Wallace Messer (Scott) step daughters, Jamie Burt (David) and Jennifer Simmons; sons, Shane Wallace and Dan Wallace; brother, Curtis Wallace; sister, Peggy Wallace; grandchildren, Kaylee, Riley and Connor Burt, Nikolas and Barrett Messer, Bailey Simmons and Dalton Ryan. John, also known as “Big John”, was no stranger to a “hard day’s work” and was not satisfied until he gave all that he had. He was a retired coal miner from Jim Walter’s Resources mine #4 where he worked for 40+ years. He was also a goal oriented person and put his dreams to focus by establishing and starting Big John’s BBQ and Wallace Excavating of Moundville, Al. John loved spending time with his grandchildren and fishing. He was a great husband, father and PawPaw to his family. He was a self-made man who was loved by many and will be missed. Pallbearers will be David Burt, John Burt, Scott Messer, Roscoe Boyd, Joy Skelton and Dan Wallace.
