Charles Melvin “Mel” Cothran, 72, of Greensboro went to his eternal home on August 24, 2024. He was born on April 7, 1952 in Tuscaloosa, AL to George Rutherford Cothran and Virginia Madison Cothran.

He was a man of many talents and worked at the management level for a variety of corporations during his career including Wendy’s, Hardee’s, Captain D’s, Sears, Scotty’s Hardware, Dollar General, Godiva Chocolatier’s, Kay Jewelers, and Pilot. He was a proud member of the Greensboro High School class of 1970, loved music, everything Alabama Crimson Tide, laughing and helping others to laugh with his quick wit and undeniable charm.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rollanda Rudd Cothran, his parents, and his brother, Rudy. He is survived by his daughter, Heather Marie Cothran Newberry (Jeffrey); his sons: Charles Melvin “Chip” Cothran, Jr. (Shannon), and Theodore Madison “Ted” Cothran (Kimberly); and his sister, Diane Cothran Gilpin. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Ben, Madi, Aurora, Escher, Jonah, Gracie, and Hadley.

Visitation was held on Sunday, September 1, 2024 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at Greensboro Presbyterian Church. Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm at the church with the Reverend John Alexander officiating and Kirk Funeral Homes, Greensboro Chapel directing. A graveside service followed at Greensboro Cemetery.

Honorary pallbearers were the elders and deacons of Greensboro Presbyterian Church; Magnolia Homemakers and community leaders, Alabama HCL, Greensboro Garden Club, Alabama Garden Club, Greensboro Music Study Club, Eric Zetterholm, Robin Rudd, Dale Rudd, Dan Wilson, Marty Lorenz, and Owen Farley.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made to Greensboro Presbyterian Church.
