The Alabama Department of Transportation plans to resurface 4.7 miles of SR-14 in Hale County, from near Holbrook Place to the SR-61 intersection in Greensboro.

The work was set to begin Tuesday, Oct. 13, and is to continue until the end of the year, weather permitting.

The project includes a road diet on SR-14 from Main Street to Tuscaloosa Street. That stretch will be changed from four travel lanes to two, with a two-way center left turn lane.

ALDOT cited Federal Highway Administration figures that road diets can reduce crashes on traditional four-lane undivided highways by up to 47 percent.

Lane closures will not be allowed between 6:30 and 8:30 a.m. on weekdays when school is in session.
