The Canebrake Players will hold open auditions for “The Color Purple: The Musical” on Sunday, August 16, and Monday, August 17, at 6 p.m. both evenings at the Old School on Main, 601 S. Main in Demopolis.
Those auditioning should prepare a song about 60 seconds long in the style of the show and be ready to cold read from the script, which will be provided at the audition.
The production includes male and female roles for ages 10 through adult. Performance dates are November 13-16.
The musical, based on Alice Walker’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, features a book by Marsha Norman and music and lyrics by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray, and follows Celie’s journey of hardship and self-discovery in rural Alabama and Georgia across the first half of the 20th century.
