A Pickens County woman has sued Big Mike’s Steakhouse in Moundville, alleging she was injured after slipping on grease that had been left on a walkway at the restaurant.

Shelia M. Jones filed the lawsuit May 26 in Hale County Circuit Court, naming Big Mike’s Steakhouse Moundville, LLC as the defendant. Jones is represented by Brian A. Traywick and Alishia N. Traywick of Shunnarah Injury Lawyers in Birmingham.

According to the complaint, Jones was a customer at the restaurant on Feb. 22, 2025, when she fell due to what the filing describes as “a dangerous grease spilled and covering the walkway.” The suit alleges the restaurant knew or should have known about the condition and failed to clean it up or warn customers.

Jones claims she suffered injuries to various parts of her body and has incurred medical expenses as a result. The complaint also alleges past and future lost wages, ongoing pain and suffering, and mental anguish.

The lawsuit brings four counts against the restaurant: negligence, recklessness and wantonness, premises liability, and negligent supervision and training of employees. Jones is seeking compensatory and punitive damages and has requested a jury trial.

The complaint lists the registered agent for service as Michael A. Cole at 33215 U.S. Highway 43, Thomasville, the address of the original Big Mike’s Steakhouse location. The chain, which Cole co-founded with Scott Powell and Caine Conway, has grown to include locations in Auburn, Guntersville, Orange Beach, Andalusia, Millbrook, and Bay Minette, in addition to the Thomasville and Moundville restaurants.

The lawsuit comes as the restaurant has announced plans to relocate its Moundville location to Northport. The Northport City Council was scheduled to consider a proposed economic development agreement for the project at a May 18 meeting. The agreement would involve Sucarnoochee Investments, LLC, doing business as Big Mike’s Steakhouse. The new location, planned for a vacant site on Highway 43, was projected to generate nearly $5 million in annual sales and employ more than 35 workers.

Big Mike’s Steakhouse Moundville, LLC had not responded to the lawsuit as of press time. The complaint contains only the plaintiff’s allegations, and no determination of fault has been made.
