An Alabama Department of Transportation worker was injured Wednesday after being struck by a tractor-trailer while performing routine roadside maintenance on State Route 69 north of Greensboro.

According to ALDOT, the employee was operating a tractor mower along the highway when a tractor-trailer struck the mower. The worker was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover. The employee’s name was not released.

Wallace McAdory III, ALDOT’s West Central Region engineer, said the agency is grateful the worker is expected to recover and urged motorists to exercise caution near maintenance crews.

“Our employees work hard every day to maintain our roadways, often in close proximity to traffic,” McAdory said.

ALDOT reminded drivers to remain alert near roadside work activities and to move over or slow down when approaching workers and equipment. Alabama’s Move Over Law requires motorists to change lanes or reduce speed when passing emergency and maintenance vehicles on the roadside.

No further details about the crash, including the identity of the tractor-trailer driver or whether any charges were filed, were immediately available.
