Students from Southside High School and Keith High School in Dallas County recently visited Joe’s Black Angus Farm in Newbern for a field trip.
Students from Southside High and Keith High made their way to The Joe’s Black Angus Farm in Newbern, Alabama for an educational and inspiring morning.
Cornelius Joe and his son Christopher (owner of Connecting with Birds and Nature Tours, LLC.) explored the connection between agriculture and the natural environment.
The visit provided a firsthand look at farm life while also introducing students to outdoor activities such as birding and wildlife observation.
During the tour, students learned about the Black Angus cattle operation and gained insight into the care, management, and responsibilities involved in raising livestock.
Beyond the farm, the group was guided through the property’s natural areas, where they identified birds, studied wildlife habitats, and observed the richness of the local ecosystem.
This outing sparked curiosity among the students, many of whom were engaging with nature in this way for the first time.
“This was an opportunity for our students to broaden their learning beyond the classroom,” Christopher shared. “They were able to see the dedication that farming requires while also developing an appreciation for the importance of protecting our natural resources and entrepreneurship.”
The visit to Joe’s Black Angus Farm underscored the value of outdoor educational experiences, combining lessons in agriculture, environmental stewardship, and community engagement. Thanks to Dr. Cedric Brown (Southside High Principle) and Tommy Tisdale (Keith High Principle) for sharing their students with us.
