Ashton Bates, 5 year old daughter of Ashley & Carlton Bates of Moundville, placed 3rd Alternate, Best Smile and was crowned Charity Queen, on February 15th at the 2025 West Alabama Valentine’s Pageant in the 5 year old Division at Hillcrest High School. She is the granddaughter of Paula & Carl Bates and Mary & Joe Swartz.
Dana Cook Mitchell of Helena, Al., formerly of Moundville, has been chosen by the Leadership Institute at the National League for Nursing. A competitive Leadership Training program for Nurse Educators with only 42 participants chosen each year, nationwide. They will receive executive coaching and participate in training sessions, some online and some at the NLN Campus in Washington, DC. Dana said not only was she surprised, but it was very fortunate for UAB to have 4 of the 42 participants chosen.
Dana is a 1997 graduate of Hale County High School and UAB School of Nursing 2015. She has spent 7 years as Program Director for the Bachelors Degree program and currently Interim Assistant Dean for Undergraduate and Prelicensure Nursing Education since August 1, 2024. Dana is the daughter of William & Mary Cook of Moundville. She and her husband, Jimmy, have two daughters, Hannah (17, a senior at Helena High School) and Audrey (14, a freshman at Helena High.
The descendants of John Skelton and I. Delia Davis Skelton, held a family reunion, this past Sunday, February 21st, at Moundville Baptist Church. Approximately 50 attended.
