Joseph Royal, 59, of Greensboro, Alabama, passed away at his home on January 19, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 17, 1965, in Greensboro to Lorie Herrod and Oscar Herrod.

At an early age, Joseph accepted Christ as his Lord and personal savior. He received his education at The Hale County Training School in Greensboro, where he was part of “The Real Trojans.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, one brother, and several uncles and aunts.

Joseph is survived by his son, Joseph Royal Jr.; twelve siblings, Arthur Royal of Greensboro, Ira Royal of Greensboro, John (Doris) Royal of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Lois Royal of Benoit, Wisconsin, Willie James Royal of Greensboro, Georgia Ann Herrod of Greensboro, Denise Herrod of Greensboro, Malinda (Trevon) Vawters of Tuscaloosa, Joann (Kenneth) Williams of Alberta, Kenneth White of Waynesboro, Mississippi, Tracy Robinson of Greensboro, and Angela Pasteur of Sawyerville. He also leaves behind his uncle, Samuel (Vera) Royal of Sawyerville; three aunts, Ida Mae (James) Burnett and Lucy M. Royal of Chicago and Gloria Royal of Sawyerville; and a dear friend, Identric “Dent” Williams. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A homegoing service was held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Washington & Paige Chapel in Greensboro. Pastor Jessie White Jr. officiated.
