Camellia Cottage was built in 1880 and symbolized the new growth in Greensboro’s post-Civil War history. The front porch was enlarged by adding the twelve Ionic columns, as well as the porte cochére. Formerly occupied by the L.J. Lawson and Turpin Vise families, the house has seen a beautiful transformation with its recent owners who are also both artists. Tourists will no doubt enjoy the captivating works of art displayed throughout this stunning home.
Truly a hidden gem, Japonica Path stands concealed behind immense magnolia trees and lush camellias. Built in the 1840s by Calvin Norris, Japonica Path was named for the camellia japonica long before it became the Alabama state flower. The house has been owned by several families over the years including the Webb, Smaw, Knight and Withers families. Currently the Dyess family resides in the home and have painstakingly restored Japonica Path to its former glory, operating it as a full service wedding and event venue.
