On Friday, July 26, U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell will make two significant stops in Greensboro, highlighting her commitment to improving healthcare and addressing severe weather challenges in the Black Belt region.

That morning, Sewell will host a press conference at Hale County Hospital, during which, she is expected to announce the allocation of $1,000,000 in funding for the hospital.

This funding, part of the $13.1 million secured by Rep. Sewell in the Fiscal Year 2024 federal government funding package for local projects in Alabama’s 7th Congressional District, aims to expand the hospital’s capacity to provide exceptional healthcare to rural and underserved communities in the Black Belt.

Following the hospital appearance, Rep. Sewell will host a “Radar & Recovery Roundtable” from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Greensboro Recreation Center (Old National Guard Armory), located at 515 Green Street in Greensboro. This event is open to the public and will bring together local organizations and experts to discuss disaster recovery efforts and address the weather radar gaps in the region. The Black Belt of Alabama, rural and historically underserved, is particularly vulnerable to tornadoes and other severe weather events.

The roundtable will feature representatives from NOAA, FEMA, Alabama EMA, the American Red Cross, and local voluntary organizations active in disaster recovery.

The region’s “radar gap” has been a significant issue, leaving many areas without adequate weather radar coverage, which is crucial for timely and accurate severe weather warnings. This roundtable also aims to address concerns about, and progress on, that issue, as well.
