For over the past 20 years, West Alabama Public Transportation has provided public transportation to rural communities faced with challenging transportation issues. Residents of the nine-county service area are able to use services for medical, dental, shopping, pay bills and visiting. Recently, such destinations as cancer treatment centers and dialysis appointments have been exceptionally high in demand.

However, with a grant awarded by the Alabama Department of Transportation, new vehicles were secured as an upgrade to the current fleet. With the new vehicles and great drivers, West Alabama Publication has been able to meet the needs of families in Greene, Hale, Perry, Bibb, Dallas, Choctaw, Lowndes, Sumter and Marengo counties. Our drivers work well with people and are conscious of the needs of rural populations. We are fortunate to be able to offer a great benefit package and decent salary to our drivers. Unlike many transportation providers, our drivers take the vehicle home each evening”, said Bobby Armstead, Executive Director of West Alabama Public Transportation.

To join the driver’s team at WAPT, visit the website at westalpt.com or stop by one of the recruiting events to speak with staff and complete an application. Please bring a valid driver’s license; Thursday, June 20 at Moundville Community Center from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon and at James C. Poole Jr. from 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Thursday, June 20 at Moundville Community Center.

West Alabama Public Transportation is located at 500 East Washington Street in Demopolis, Alabama. For questions, please call the office at (334) 289-5789.
