GPD arrests Owens, 30, for stolen property May 16

Joseph Jamal Owens of Greensboro was arrested by the Greensboro Police Department early on the morning of May 15 at the Inn Motel in Greensboro. Owens, 30, is accused of burglary and receiving stolen property in the first degree.

According to the Greensboro Police Department, items recovered from the burglary, which occurred around 3:00 AM on May 15, 2024, included tools, power saws, a Dewalt axe, a Stanley battery charger, and numerous other tools. The items were identified after an anonymous tip led officers to Owens and his accomplice at the motel. Owens was seen pushing a shopping cart filled with stolen items up State Street.

The criminal complaint filed in the District Court of Hale County details the charges against Owens. He is accused of violating Section 13A-008-017 of the Alabama Code, which pertains to receiving stolen property in the first degree. The complaint alleges that Owens was caught with the stolen items listed above.

Owens, according to court records, is currently held in jail. He has been assigned a bond of $15,000. He was formally charged and filed on May 16, 2024, with a preliminary hearing set for June 10.
