William “Carnell” Colburn, also known as Papa to his family, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023. A A celebration of life was held for Carnell on Saturday, August 5th, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Cottondale, with visitation from 11:00 am- 12:00 pm. The service followed at 12:00 pm.

Following the service, everyone is invited to join the family for a meal at Carnell’s home at 2:00 pm.

Carnell was born on March 20, 1956, to Bertha Mae Colburn and the late Robert Colburn Jr. He grew up in Greensboro, Alabama where he attended Southern Academy as well as Marion Institute. He then went on to further his education at Shelton State Community College.

Carnell was known for overcoming every challenge thrown his way and inspiring everyone who knew him. He never met a stranger and made lasting friendships wherever he went. He was a pillar of strength for his loved ones and was cherished by all.

His family brought immense joy to his life, he lit up the room whenever he saw them. He was always thrilled to be a part of his children and grandchildren’s accomplishments.

Proceeded in death by his father, Robert Colburn Jr.; grandmother, Opal Johnson; grandfather, Marvin Johnson; grandmother, Ruth Nichols Colburn; grandfather, Robert William Colburn Sr. grandson, Trenton Brown, and nephew, Heath Search.

Carnell’s memory will live on through his wife, Melissa Colburn. He is also survived by his mother, Bertha Mae; sisters, Traci Montz (Darryll) and Angie Warner (Jim); children, Kristopher Colburn (Kristi), Daniel Colburn (Hannah), and Nadiea Todd (Chris); grandchildren, Baileigh Colburn, Blake Colburn, Braydon Green, Emily Colburn, Asher Colburn, Kaleb Colburn, and Logan Todd; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
