Mittie Hoggle Karthaus of Florence, Alabama (formerly of Birmingham, Alabama) took her last step to Heaven on March 28, 2023. She was born on July 1, 1937 in Greensboro, Alabama. She is a graduate of Greensboro High School and Howard College (Samford University). Prior to raising her children, she was employed at West End Baptist Hospital, Birmingham, Alabama as a lab technician. She married Fred Karthaus, Jr. on June 9, 1963 and they remained married until his death on February 17, 1999. She was the mother of three children and Nana to six granddaughters. She was a Christian and an active member of the Metropolitan Church of God where she enjoyed Bible studies, singing in the choir, and volunteering to help in the church office. She loved to travel and spend time with her many friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Fred W. Karthaus Jr. and her parents Webb and Mary Margaret Hoggle.
She is survived by her children Fred W. Karthaus III (Connie), Leigh Karthaus Pickett (David) and David L. Karthaus and six granddaughters Courtney Pickett, Bethany Cox (Colbey), Linzie Rouse (Clay), Taylor Pickett, Rachael Karthaus, and Allison Karthaus.
Graveside services were held at 1 P.M. Monday April 3, 2023 at Elmwood Cemetery in Birmingham, Alabama with her son Dr. Fred W. Karthaus III officiating. The family would like to acknowledge the staff of Columbia Cottage Florence, Alabama and the staff of Gentiva Hospice for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Metropolitan Church of God or Samford University.
