The YES March meeting was held at Greensboro Baptist Church. Frances Ann Smith, the president, conducted the meeting. Brunch was provided by Nancy Jennings with assistance from Anne Bailey.

The program was presented by Sarah Cole, the owner of Abadir’s. Sarah shared information about her pop-up eatery, Abadir’s, which operates from her commercial kitchen at Abadir’s Cottage. The cottage is located across the side street from the Hale County Courthouse in the location where the law office of Bob Roseberry was formerly located. Sarah specializes in Southern and Egyptian foods that contain whole, natural, and unrefined ingredients. Her goal is to connect family and culture by giving back to the community through food. Her next planned “pop-up” will be a meal served at Abadir’s Cottage on March 10.

In addition, Cole shared information about the Black Belt Food Project, a 501-C-3 non-profit organization that has been formed. Produce is available through the Black Belt Food Project at Project Horseshoe Farms on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9-11:30 a.m. The local, organic produce is free or available for whatever the recipient feels able to pay.
